Dinaledi (STARS)

Presented in association with the University of Regina and the First Nations University of Canada, Dinaledi is a captivating South African a cappella and gumboot dance group. Gumboot was born in the gold mines of South Africa, where miners used it to communicate with one another during their lunch breaks and when the mine bosses were away. Once home, the miners performed it for family and neighbours, and from these humble roots, gumboot dancing spread throughout the nation.

Dinaledi is led by singer, choreographer and teacher Lizzy Mahashe. Also featuring Brazilian singer, dancer and percussionist Guiomar Campbell, Canadian Aaron Jensen from the CARA award- winning a cappella group WIBI, and songbird / musician Felicity Jane Williams. Dinaledi represents the traditions of South African culture to other colours of the rainbow around the world.
