Artist Biographies
​

Jeannie Mah
Jeannie was born in Regina in 1952, the daughter of Chinese immigrants. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Fine Arts) from the University of Regina in 1976. Her ceramic studies with Vic Cicansky and Jack Sures led her to pursue studies at the Emily Carr College of Art in Vancouver, the Banff Centre, and the Sorbonne. She became fascinated by the fragile translucence of porcelain, and has gained international recognition for her delicate hand-built vessels.  Her travels abroad have been powerful stimulants to her imagination, and her subject matter often references Minoan or Sevres cups.  Her work explores self-identity within the intricacies of place, race, and history, while examining the travelling of cultures, people, and ideas, within the cultural context of ceramics.

 Jeannie’s work has been featured in solo and group shows around the world, and is in many publications. Her work can be seen in the collections of Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art in Toronto, the Jingdzhen Ceramic Art Gallery in China, MacKenzie Art Gallery,  University of Regina, Dunlop Art Gallery, and Regina City Hall, and she has received numerous awards. ​

John Peet
A Regina resident for over forty years, John Peet was born in St. John’s, NL. and raised in Montreal. In 1978 he started to work in clay at the University of Regina Extension Pottery. He was soon exhibiting and marketing his work widely.

In 1988 he volunteered with CUSO at a women’s pottery co-op in The Gambia, West Africa. On returning to Regina in 1990 John entered the BFA program at the University of Regina, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction and was the recipient of the W. A. Riddell Award in 1994.
From 1990 until 2000 John taught community ceramic classes for the City of Regina and continued to create and exhibit his work.
John worked at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina, 1998 – 2016, holding the positions of Installations Officer, Curatorial Project Manager and Gallery Shop Manager. 

Since leaving the gallery he has been concentrating on his ceramic practice, winning the Outstanding Entry Award in the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s juried biannual exhibition both Dimensions 2019 and 2021. John also created a solo exhibition My Grandfather’s Pictures for the Dunlop Art Gallery, Sherwood Village Branch in 2021.
His work is included in several public collections, including the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the City of Regina, and the Moose Jaw Art Gallery.

​Don Hall
​Don Hall grew up in Saskatchewan and has explored and photographed the Saskatchewan landscape throughout his lengthy career as a photographer.

Hall has been exhibiting his work since the 1970s in group and solo exhibitions across Canada and the U.S. His photographs are represented in many public & private collections including the SK Arts Collection, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, The Dunlop Art Gallery, The MacKenzie Art Gallery, The Remai Modern, The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation & The Canada Council Art Bank.

He was Manager of the Photography Department at the University of Regina from 1975-2015. During this time he taught photography as a Sessional Lecturer in the Departments of Film & Visual Arts. Hall has recently received a Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts at the University of Regina.


Lindy McIntyre
Lindy McIntyre is a writer and lover of both dance and gardens. She is a past chair of New Dance Horizons’ board of directors.

Lorne Beug
Lorne Beug studied art at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan as well as outsider art in Europe with the aid of a Canada Council grant after spending a clinical internship at the renowned psychiatric hospital in Weyburn. Beug first became recognized for his imaginative sculpture in the 1970’s which was included in the MacKenzie Art Gallery exhibition, Regina Clay and on the Virtual Museum of Canada web site. His knowledge of anthropology, archeology and geology; psychoanalysis, architecture and primitive art has had a profound influence on his unique artwork including his walk-in collage environment Two Pavilions which toured nationally. He has been the recipient of many public commissions and his sculptures and assemblages are in the collections of the Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon; Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina; Glenbow Museum, Calgary; University of Calgary; Saskatchewan Art Board; Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa; MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina; City of Regina and and Memorial University, St. John’s. Beug has most recently been developing historically layered themes in a series of medicine cabinets, wonder cabinets and light boxes which result from his collecting and collage activities.


Robin Poitras
One of New Dance Horizon's Co-Artistic Directors, Robin Poitras C.M. is one of Saskatchewan’s most prolific dance and performance creators. Creating dance, performance and installation works, she has been actively engaged in contemporary dance practice since the early 80s. For many years Robin has traversed the formal worlds of dance and performance art. She co-founded New Dance Horizons in 1986, with Dianne Fraser where she continues to act as Artistic Director. With an interest in research into diverse fields of artistic and somatic practice she has developed a unique interdisciplinary approach. Robin’s works have been presented across Canada, in Spain, France, Germany, Mongolia and Mexico. She is a recipient of the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, 2021 recipient of the Order of Canada, 2016 Lieutenant Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2006 Mayor’s Awards for Business & The Arts’ Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2004 Women of Distinction Award for the Arts.

​Eloi Homier
Born and raised on traditional Algonquin territory, Eloi Homier usually dances, canoes, and stargazes on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Everything Eloi undertakes – from dance and theatre, to storytelling canoe adventures, to sash-weaving, to astronomy (under the pseudonym Moon Guy Next Door) – has its raison d'être in his search for authentic identity.

With family lines stretching back 400 years and beyond on the territory now called Québec, Eloi is on a lifelong journey to weave his distant Gallic origins with his sprinkling of Wendat, Abénaki, Algonquin, and Nipissing roots in a way that gives a voice to his ancestors.
