Denise Fujiwara recently won the Toronto Arts Foundation Award for International Achievement in Dance. Her work as a dance artist has developed over 30 years of intensive practice, performance and study. Her mentor in Butoh is Tokyo master, Natsu Nakajima. Fujiwara practices a Butoh that cultivates curiosity, the imagination, awareness, presence and deeply embodied movement. EUNOIA, a work created using the integrated Voice and Butoh practice developed with Gerry Trentham was nominated for three Dora Awards. She leads workshops and master classes across Canada and abroad. |
Gerry Trentham is Artistic Director of lbs/sq" performance and has written, choreographed and directed over 30 works for the stage. Over three decades he has performed the works of some of Canada's most celebrated choreographers, most recently as a cast and voice director of Fujiwara's Dora nominated EUNOIA. With an M.F.A. in Theatre and a Graduate Voice Diploma from York University, he has taught, choreographed and directed internationally and has, over the past 15 years researched voice and movement synthesis at Canada’s National Voice Intensive. |
