FlexEnergetics explores health and the body through training approaches rooted in Meihuaquan, an ancient Chinese martial art in which theory guides practice. Training is centred on core principles of from Chinese health concepts of Jing (materiality of the body), Qi (energetic state), and Shen (heightened consciousness). The goal is simple: to "return to the original condition" (fanben huanyuan); that is to say to return to the original energetic condition of a child: flexible, full of vitality, a condition of unity. Thus the name of the course is based on the goal of training a Flexible body and an vibrant, calm mind based in an Energetic state of qi and shen. The one hour class of dynamic movement interspersed with meditative static positions is inspired by time-tested martial arts training to integrate body and mind, release musculature, and improve mechanics and performance.

  • meditation
  • Five Stance Stretch
  • stick/staff methods for full body coordination
  • body integration through weight bearing exercises
  • training on plum-flower posts (you will be able to borrow a set of posts from us)
The training goal: self-directed practice arranged according to the flow of one's 'qi' energetic condition, embodying a meditative quality. By releasing the body through large postures, blockages and inhibitions are removed from the body which in turn give rise to a stronger energetic flow. The energetic flow affects is our FLEX dimension: it strengthens the physical body, improves mechanical function and performance. And it is our ENERGETIC dimension that nurtures a stronger mind, clearer focus, and enhanced energetic state.
The training creates a personal workout that leaves you feeling energized, coordinated, mentally engaged, and stronger.

FlexEnergetics: Meihuaquan Fitness Methods

Based on several decades of teaching workshops, we have assembled a curriculum for FlexEnergetics that explores health and the body through the traditional Chinese health concepts of Jing, Qi, and Shen. The goal is simple: to "return to the original condition" (fanben huanyuan); that is to say to return to the original qi condition of a child. Children are flexible and have great vitality- their internal qi condition is one of unity. Thus the name of the course is based on the goal of training a Flexible body and an vibrant, calm mind based in an Energetic state of qi and shen.
