Subtle Awareness Paths: Inside Out & Outside In with I-Ying Wu
Day: Saturday, July 4th
Time: 10:00AM - 12:00PM & 1:00PM - 3:00PM
Cost: $40 for one session or $70 for both
Class Description
This two-session somatic workshop invites participants to cultivate subtle awareness—an intuitive sensitivity that connects inner experience with the surrounding world. Inspired by the Daoist philosophy of qi (internal energy), this practice supports relaxation, presence, and embodied responsiveness through mindfulness and gentle, spontaneous movement. It aims to reconnect participants with the inner awareness and intuitive bodily responsiveness that are inherently present within us.
Session 1 – Inside Out (Indoor Studio)
July 4, Saturday, 10am-12pm
This session focuses on softening the bodymind from within. Through guided improvisational movement, participants are invited to listen inwardly and allow movement to emerge naturally in a tranquil, relaxed, and focused state. As inner awareness deepens, it gradually expands and connects with the surrounding space. The practice encourages gentle listening to subtle internal and external cues, supporting uninhibited improvisation that unfolds with ease, playfulness, and joy.
Session 2 – Outside In (Outdoor with Nature)
July 4, Saturday, 1-3pm
This outdoor practice extends subtle awareness into creating relationships with the natural environment. Guided by varied levels of awareness, participants will sense and listen to their “nature partners,” such as wind, trees, earth, sky, and the surrounding environment, while connecting with their inner heart. What does nature invite us to do? How does nature guide us to move? A felt sense of holistic connection between self and environment invites heightened awareness, intuitive responsiveness, and embodied presence through movement.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
