Dance Core: Feldenkrais Into Dance
Days: Tuesday & Thursday mornings Dates: October 3 + 5, 10 + 12, 2023 Times: 9:30 am- 10:45 am Cost: $20/class Class Description: This dynamic movement class considers ideas from Feldenkrais Method and Contemporary Dance practice. The class begins with gentle breath work and moves towards light mobilization of the skeletal structure in various orientations low to the ground. From there we explore short sequences involving rolling in and out of the floor. The speed of the class picks up as we engage direction to locomote through space. We train through task-based movement projects and organized sequences of repeatable action both with and without music. It’s perfect for movers and shakers, and can be scaled (try the first 45 mins) for folks recovering from injury, or wanting a lighter impact class. Image rich and sensation lush, the vibe of this class is fun-work. Some ideas guiding the process are: ‘don’t try too hard’ & ‘look for pleasant sensation along the way’ Instructor Bio: Johanna Bundon is an independent artist whose practice includes performance, choreography, and teaching. She has been working in the field of movement arts for over 15 years. Johanna is a grad of the San Diego 4 Feldenkrais Professional Training Program (2020) and an Authorized Trainee Awareness Through Movement® teacher. She trained at Les Ateliers de Danse Moderne de Montréal (2002-2005), Globe Theatre’s Actor Conservatory (2008), and has a BA in Arts & Culture from the University of Regina (2015). As a choreographer, Johanna’s work has been presented across Western Canada through the Prairie Dance Circuit and as a part of the National Arts Centre’s Prairie Scene.
