The Métis jig is a combination of First Nations dancing, European step-dancing, including reel, jig, and quadrille steps. Metis jigging is a traditional form of dance that originates from the Metis people in Canada. Typically performed in pairs or groups, with dancers incorporating intricate footwork, heel-toe movements, and quick turns. Metis jigging is often accompanied by fiddle music, and it is a significant part of Indigenous culture, expressing joy, celebration, and a sense of community. The dance style has been passed down through generations and continues to be practiced and celebrated today. |
